Highland girl Lauren Campbell from Newtonhill near Kirkhill faces the chop and helps good cause as her hair will be made into a wig for sick children suffering hair loss by the Little Princess Trust charity

A Highland girl with waist-length hair faced the chop for charity.
Lauren Campbell, who is nine years old and lives in Newtonhill near Kirkhill, was inspired by her older sister Sarah who did the same thing in November.
The Kirkhill Primary School pupil had 14 inches cut from her hair and the money will be donated to the Little Princess Trust charity which helps children who have hair loss due to illness.
Her parents, Morag and Brian Campbell, who run the family business Pine Chalets – self-catering holidays – are proud of their daughter.
Mrs Campbell said: “Lauren has been thinking of having her waist-length hair cut shorter for some time. She has only ever had trims off the ends to keep it healthy, so it was a really big decision to make.
“Lauren wanted to help other children who have hair loss due to illness. We were aware of the Little Princess Trust charity, as her sister Sarah donated her hair and raised £625 for them in November 2021.”
She said that on the day her daughter was nervous but very excited too, adding: “She enjoyed the pampering of a shampoo, re-styling and blow dry from Laura Simpson at Lovit Hair Salon in Beauly.
“Lauren felt ‘light and amazing’ afterwards. The whole family is so proud of her kindness and thoughtfulness for other children.”
Speaking after the event, Lauren said it had made her happy to be able to help other children and that she loves her new hairstyle.
She added: “There will be no more tuggy hair and I am looking forward to not having to have my hair tied back all the time.”
Lauren said she wanted to thank all her family and friends who had donated to her Just Giving page so far. She said she was excited to see if she can make her target fundraising amount of £550 – the minimum cost for making a wig with her beautiful hair.
So far she has raised more than £350 towards her target and in her spare time she enjoys going to Kirkhill cubs, swimming and athletics. She also loves animals and has just started learning to play the chanter.
