Eyewitness to Barn Church Road crash describes a ‘truly a shocking experience’ hearing ‘a big crash and saw the car smash onto the pavement’
An eyewitness of the three car smash on Barn Church Road has said that seeing what happened was a “truly shocking experience”.
Two people were taken to Raigmore Hospital after the crash that left two vehicles on their roofs following around 18.30 last evening.
The pursuit started when police saw a Mercedes EQB travelling at speed along Barn Church Road and ended when the serious collision.
A 20-year-old driver has now been arrested and charged and will appear before Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday.
The eyewitness – whose name we are withholding – described how they saw “a large white Mercedes electric SUV” that was “getting chased by two badged and one undercover police car” at high speed.
They said: “Then I ran down and heard a big crash and saw the car smash onto the pavement.
“People in two other cars were seen to be fine and not harmed badly one was an old woman and another was a middle aged man in a Tesla.
“The woman’s car rolled and was upside down but she still made it out alive. Truly a shocking experience.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a crash in Culloden.
"Around 6.20pm on 13 September, a white Mercedes EQB was seen by officers driving at speed in Barn Church Road. A short pursuit took place before the vehicle was involved in a collision with two other cars.
"A 43-year-old man and 54-year-old woman were taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.
"The 20-year-old is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court in connection with road traffic offences on Monday, 16 September, 2024.
“A report on the circumstances of the incident will be referred to the Professional Standards Department for review.”
