EXECUTIVE: Club on the hunt for retired and semi-retired business individuals
What do you do once you have retired – or semi-retired – but are still looking to learn and network? Probus has the answer.
Probus is a group for retired or semi-retired men and women with a professional or business background.
They enjoy the stimulation and companionship of Probus membership and meet together and connect once a month at Culloden House Hotel.
Historically, the Inverness group has always been available for both men and women, although hitherto the membership has always been made up of men.
The club are now actively seeking new members to join their ranks and hope that women would also come along and reap the benefits of the club. Will you be the first woman to join?
Probus member, Hamish Jack commented on the benefits of the group, saying: “It’s companionship, and all those who are there could write autobiographies of their life.
“It’s a great way to meet new people.”
Probus hosts lectures on a variety of interesting topics, and in the summer go on excursions. In the past the group has visited the likes of Lifescan, Norbord, the forest in Daviot, and a distillery.
At Christmas time the group has a Christmas lunch together, which has been described as a great occasion by members.
Honorary secretary of Probus, Alan Simmons, said: “One member could hold a meeting on their own life, just based on their experience.
“You often get to know things about people and the world that you wouldn’t have known before.
“There’s a feeling that people don’t want to join clubs anymore, but we are hoping that people will be interested in joining Probus.”
During Covid the committee organised to phone other members of the group, just to check in on one another and provide some connection.
The club convenes at 11am on the first Tuesday of the month with tea and coffee provided from 10.30am at Culloden House Hotel.
If you are interested in joining, then email: alan.sheila99@gmail.com or write to Alan Simmons, 99 Kingsmills Road, Inverness, IV2 3PE.
