Skills for Business Roadshow set to take place in Inverness

An event later this month will provide businesses the opportunity to address the skills shortage that is currently being faced across the region.

Taking place on April 26 at the Macdonald Drumossie Hotel, The Skills for Business Roadshow will give SMEs access to upskilling and reskilling opportunities at little to no cost.

According to the event organiser, the Open University, 70 per cent of employers in Scotland are highlighting their organisations are facing acute skills shortages, with the impact leading to reduced output, profitability and growth.

Through the Scottish Government’s Flexible Workforce Development Fund (FWDF), SMEs can receive Open University training grants of up to £5K to support the training of existing staff. Larger employers in the private, public and third sectors can also tap into training up to the value of £15K.

David Allen, senior partnerships manager at The Open University in Scotland said: “We look forward to welcoming employers and businesses to our event in The Highlands and sharing with you the incredible opportunities available to help your organisation thrive.

“We can also share with you the funding opportunities you could draw on to develop skills to support your business grow, supporting you and your employees. We can sign you up on the day to allow you to benefit from this opportunity.”

The event has been developed in partnership with Inverness Chamber of Commerce and Visit Inverness Loch Ness.

Paula Nicol, deputy chief executive at Inverness Chamber of Commerce said: “We’re delighted to partner with the OU to provide this informative roadshow to the employers and businesses in our area. Access to the funding and grants will be invaluable and help with decreasing the skills gaps we are seeing more of now post Covid and Brexit.”
