OWNERS of traditional buildings have been given advice about upkeep and maintenance of their properties.

The event at the Old High Church Hall, in Academy Street, Inverness marked Traditional Buildings Day.

Inverness Townscape Heritage Partnership (ITHP) hosted the free event which had a panel of experts who were available to answer questions.

Sarah James-Gaukroger, ITHP assistant project officer, said: "It was a rare opportunity for anyone in the town to come along with pictures of their property and get on-the-spot advice."

The day brought together four experts: Craig Frew and Neil Grieve historic buildings consultants; Andrew Bradley, stonemason and Calum Maclean, conservation architect.

"The event helped to educate as what to look for and the right thing to do about maintenance, like the right contractors to hire," Mrs James-Gaukroger said.

The experts gave advice on building issues including stonemasonry, slating, lime mortars, harling, plaster and windows.

Attendees also had the opportunity to try their hand at Scots slating and stonemasonry as well as watching demonstrations from the experts.

Free information booklets were provided by Historic Environment Scotland.
