Residents who have not yet applied to the EU settlement scheme are reminded that the deadline is at the end of the month.

Highland Council has issued the reminder so that those affected can continue to work in the UK and have access to public services.

The UK government Home Office has just released the latest quarterly figures for the scheme, showing that 10,950 EU/EEA/Swiss citizens residing in the Highland area have now applied for settled status.

However, the EU settlement scheme closes on June 30 and any EU/EEA/Swiss citizens who reside in the Highland Council area and have yet to apply to the EU settlement scheme, are encouraged to do so without delay.

Councillor Jimmy Gray, chairman of the local authority’s Brexit working group, said he was encouraged by the number of people who had already applied, adding: “However, I would like to appeal to those who have yet to get around to applying for the EU settlement scheme to do so without any further delay.

“This process, which is free to use, closes on June 30, and allows you and your family to continue to work in the UK and access the public services and benefits you contribute to such as the NHS.”

Anyone wishing to apply must do so online here.

Telephone support is available from the EU Settlement Resolution Centre on 0300 123 7379 and the CAB 0800 9169847.
