Engineer from Nairn caught driving at more than 100mph on A96

An engineer responsible for installing superfast broadband was caught speeding through roadworks then continuing at speeds of up to 100mph Inverness Sheriff Court has been told.

Ryan MacFarlane (25) of Lawrie Drive, Nairn, had been visiting his young son in hospital in Inverness on May 28 last year.

Solicitor Marc Dickson said his client was on his way home and rushing to get there because he had an early start for work the following day.

MacFarlane admitted driving carelessly and at excessive speed at Tomhommie on the A96 and was fined £480.

Mr Dickson told the court MacFarlane's licence was essential for his work and Sheriff Iain Cruickshank issued four penalty points.

MacFarlane had previous road traffic convictions.
