A teenage swimmer helped his brother get to shore after their kayaks were swamped by water in rough conditions on Loch Ness.

The boys had been attempting to cross the loch to visit an old boathouse.

After their kayaks filled with water they managed to get to shore of the loch, but the ground was too steep for them to get out of the water.

They used a mobile phone to raise the alarm and the coastguard and RNLI Loch Ness lifeboat went to their aid.

In a statement RNLI Loch Ness said: "Initial reports were of two boys in the water, opposite Invermoriston.

"Upon arriving on scene, the crew onboard the lifeboat witnessed one of the boys being winched up by Rescue 151, the Costguard helicopter.

"Once it was safe to do so, the lifeboat was edged close into the shore, enabling crew-members to reach the second casualty, and lift him aboard.

"From there, the lifeboat had the short trip across the loch, to a waiting ambulance crew.

"With no further assistance required, the lifeboat and crew returned to station.

"Despite being in the water for about an hour, both boys made full recoveries."
