THE Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness has teamed up with a travel company in a bid to bring customers from the Western Isles to the Highland capital.

In partnership with The Travel Company Edinburgh, it has launched an exclusive shopping package specifically targeted at residents on the Isle of Lewis and Harris.

The shopping centre prides itself on its close relationship with the islands and for several years ran Eastgate on the Road, a venture to give something back by taking the centre to the islanders who had travelled to Inverness on previous occasions.

A group of retailers would pack up their products and spend several days working out of a local hotel selling direct to the islanders while on one occasion a fashion show raised money for the Lewis and Harris cancer support group.

Eastgate manager Jackie Cuddy said: “We always received such a warm welcome and from this we introduced a delivery service from Eastgate to the islands which is particularly popular at Christmas

“To introduce shopping trips alongside this delivery service seemed the logical progression of the Eastgate on the Road initiative and so I am delighted that we have found the same enthusiasm from our partners, The Travel Company Edinburgh, and look forward to the launch and subsequent development of this latest initiative.”

Available all year round, the standard package is available from £271 per person and includes return flights from Stornoway to Inverness, plus a one-night stay (based on two people sharing a twin room) at a four-star city centre hotel with breakfast.

A £50 voucher to spend at Eastgate is also included.

Package extras are available, such as extra nights, return transfers and day trips to local attractions such as Culloden Battlefield.

The shopping centre can also organise for purchases to be delivered to islanders’ front doors for £12.
