With church congregations across Inverness unable to gather for the most important festival in the Christian calendar due to coronavirus restrictions, Easter this year will be very different.

Although the buildings may be empty, many are reporting growing online audience figures while this year the Easter messages from city church leaders are of hope and love.

Rev Alasdair Macleod, minister of Smithton Church, gives his message:

The Easter message of Jesus’ physical, literal resurrection from the grave has always been about hope replacing despair, light illuminating the darkness and life conquering over death.

Not only does this resurrection mark Jesus Christ as different to all other religious leaders in history, the fact that he conquered death as the prototype on behalf of all who follow him, there is now hope – real hope of forgiveness, belonging and security with God.

Thankfully, this hope is not confined to a building or congregation.

Instead, this living hope dwells inside and, over time, reveals itself on the outside as we attempt to follow Jesus.

Over one-third of the world’s population looks to the hope that’s found in the Easter event.

Maybe it’s time for you to investigate the early, widespread and credible testimony for this hope for yourself?

Lockdown means we have the time; Easter has given us the hope!
