An early morning flight from Inverness to London Gatwick airport was cancelled today.

The 7am easyJet EZY846 service between the Highland and UK capitals, due to arrive 8.45, remained grounded because of “air traffic control restrictions”, the airline said.

Passengers were informed around six hours before take-off and were told they could switch to another flight for free, choose a voucher for the full value of their ticket or request a refund.

An easyJet spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that flight EZY846 from Inverness to London Gatwick this morning was unable to operate due to air traffic control restrictions delaying the previous flight, which meant it was not possible for the aircraft to land at Inverness within the airport’s curfew last night.

“While this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused and have been doing all we can to minimise the disruption for our customers, providing the option of a free transfer to an alternative flight or a refund and hotel accommodation and meals for those who require them.”
