The 33-year-old was stopped by police in Balnain Street, Inverness on May 1 last year.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald decided against hearing the facts after seeing the high level of drugs involved, saying: "The reading is quite astounding. You have a terrible record and I want a criminal justice social work report to see what alternatives are open to the court. I don't think a fine is appropriate."

She also warned Gibbs to expect a lengthy disqualification when he returns on October 28.

She banned him from driving in the interim and told Gibbs: "The length of disqualification will be determined at sentencing."
