A driver has hit out, claiming he was overcharged for repairs when he took his Mercedes to an Inverness garage.

Paul McCluskie, who is from Glasgow and was working in the Highlands last month, found that the tailgate lock was jamming and his vehicle was also due for a service.

He took it to Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz of Inverness, in Longman Road, because it seemed convenient.

Mr McCluskie said he was charged £500 for the repair to the lock as well as £700 for a major service – despite only needing a minor service.

He said: “This is by far the most I have been charged by a dealership in the 10 years I have owned Mercedes cars.”

In addition when he got his vehicle home he realised there was a problem with the brakes which were working fine before he had the work done – he was advised this would cost a further £517 to repair.

He said: “I was disgusted that a Mercedes garage would return a vehicle to me without noticing there was a brake fault.”

He arranged for the car to be repaired elsewhere where the work to the brake pipe ended up costing him just £60 and it was completed in one hour compared with the three-hour estimate the dealership had given him.

A spokeswoman from Arnold Clark Automobiles Ltd said she was sorry to hear of the issues, as it was not what the company expected, and he was advised to contact the firm directly.
