Inverness driver hit wall after drinking

Inverness Sheriff Court.
Inverness Sheriff Court.

A man has admitted his third drink-driving conviction in the last 15 years.

But Sheriff Margaret Neilson decided against jailing Kevin Laing (52), who was almost six times the drink-drive limit.

Blood analysis showed he had 293mcgs of alcohol in his system – the limit is 50mcgs – when he drove into a wall in the Co-op car park in Telford Street, Inverness, on June 10, 2018.

He was followed home by a member of the public who also reported him to police.

Officers traced him to his then home in Laurel Avenue.

Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said his client, who has since moved to the central belt, had been drinking until the early hours of that morning and had gone shopping.

Laing was banned from driving for five years and ordered to carry out the maximum of 300 hours of unpaid community work as an alternative to prison.
