Drive to keep Bronze Age Drumnadrochit finds close to 'home'
A PERMANENT home should be found in Drumnadrochit for the village’s earliest-known resident and his possessions, it is argued.
Local councillor Margaret Davidson wants the remains of a 4500-year-old Bronze Age archer uncovered by contractors during work on a new health centre to stay in the village.
Shards of pottery, decorated with a geometric design, and an archer’s wrist guard were discovered alongside the skeleton, which was in a crouched position in a burial cist.
Such is the local interest that once analysis of the finds is complete, Councillor Margaret Davidson believes they ought to be retained in the area. "I think it is very good to keep these sort of things in the area where they are from," she said. "It gives a better understanding of what was there."
She wondered whether they could be incorporated into a display as part of the new health centre, or at the Craigmonie Centre at Glen Urquhart High School. "We need to have conversations about this among ourselves and residents. People are really genuinely interested in the finds."
