A drunk driver who crashed into a lorry and a car has been banned from driving for a year.

Julian Tinney (71) of Kiltarlity pleaded guilty by letter to dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol in his blood on December 19 on the A87 four miles east of the Cluanie Inn in Glenshiel.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard Tinney repeatedly veered onto the opposite carriageway and collided with the rear of a lorry before losing control of his vehicle.

It then hit another car being driven by a woman, who was slightly injured as a result.

Fiscal depute Michelle Molley said Tinney told police that he thought he was OK to drive.

“Police have spoken to his family who said that he has not driven since the incident and does not intend to,” she added.

Sheriff Gary Aitken ordered Tinney to resit the extended driving test at the end of his ban and fined him £840.
