DRIFTING snow in the north Highlands has prompted the overnight closure of a stretch of the A835 north of Ullapool.

The Drumrunie Junction to Ledmore Junction section of the road is closing due to drifting snow.

Highland Council said in a statement this afternoon that it will close "until it is safe to reopen".

Highland Council road operatives will return to clearing the road on Sunday, February 14.

A Highland Council statement said: "After a day trying to keep the road safe council roads staff are planning to close the A835 north of Ullapool between Drumrunie Junction and Ledmore Junction due to drifting snow.

"It is anticipated that the closure will take effect around 5pm and will remain in place overnight and until the road is safe to reopen.

"They will return to clearing the road on Sunday, February14.

"Police have been advised of the closure."

The move follows major issues with drifting snow in recent days. Last week, 20 vehicles were stranded on a stretch of the road prompting a multi-agency rescue mission.
