A thrilled Inverness mum-of-two who scooped a £50,000 bingo jackpot just over a fortnight ago has described the immediate impact as “life-changing”.

Caitlin Neilson (22) will be joined by friends and family to toast her success at a special party at the Carlton Bingo on Saturday evening before hitting town to continue celebrations.

As she vowed immediately after her huge win, Caitlin has quickly put her winnings to good use by helping some of her closest.

She is now debt-free having made shedding the burden of those financial worries an immediate priority and, to top it all, a “dream” family holiday to Walt Disney World in Florida has been booked.

Her Nana, who has been a huge support and help over the years, was top of her list for reward and money has also been set aside for the future for her two boys, who are three and 17 months old.

“It has taken me a bit of time but is all sinking in now - slowly!” Caitlin said.

“The past fortnight has just been an amazing time and I feel really fortunate.

“I’ve been busy. I’ve been able to clear my debts, buy a car, book a holiday to Florida next year.

“I got a car for my oldest child’s dad who lives on the isle of Lewis. We’ve not been together for a long time now, but as well as helping him out it makes life so much easier for me, as he will be able to pick me up when I go over there on the boat.

“I’ve been able to help my nana as well, who has always been so good to me.

“I’ve tried not to go too crazy and have taken time to prioritise the best way of using the prize.”

The fortnight in Florida from late August next year is the stuff of dreams for Caitlin and her closest, something she never envisaged being able to afford.

“The whole experience has been very life-changing for me,” she stressed. “Obviously, I’ve managed to clear off my debts which is a huge relief, no longer having to worry about paying them on time.

“Managing to book a holiday is something I never, ever thought I’d be able to experience as a family.

“It will be my first time abroad with the two of my children and it will be my youngest’s first time abroad at 17 months old. He is just obsessed with Mickey Mouse as well!

“Hopefully we’ll make some unbelievable memories for everyone next August for two weeks.

Exact details of Saturday’s party are unclear, with Inverness bingo manager Sam McKenzie the organiser.

“It is being held at the bingo and then we’ll be going out for a little bit more celebrating after!” Caitlin added.

“Unfortunately, it means I may have a hangover on Monday, but thankfully I’m not working on Sunday!

“There is quite a big group of my friends going, as well as my auntie, her dad and a few other family members.

“It will be nice to see everyone and celebrate what has happened.”
