Domino’s clears Highland Council planning hurdle over plans for new Inverness takeaway
Domino’s plans for a new takeaway in Inverness are a step closer after it cleared a planning hurdle.
The famous pizza chain is seeking to open a third outlet in the Highland capital, this time on the Longman, which will join its existing two outlets on Academy Street and Balloan Road.
News it was eyeing up a site on the Longman industrial estate emerged in January, when an application to install Domino’s branded exterior signage on a building in Henderson Road was lodged with Highland Council.
The building in question, 2 Henderson Road, was the former site of Pagazzi Lighting and is currently occupied by a New Start Highland pop-up shop.
But plans have been in the offing for a while for the unit to switch to a food-related future, with the building’s owner securing permission in November to change its use and sub-divide it into two for use as separate hot food outlets.
Domino’s looks set to occupy one of these, although details as to when it might open are still unknown.
However, it is a step nearer to making that plan a reality after securing advertising consent for its Domino’s-branded exterior signage.
Granting approval this week, Highland Council planners said: “The proposed sign is not considered to be detrimental to the character of the area and is presumed not to have any negative effect on amenity. Many of the commercial signs in the area are illuminated.”
A potential occupant for the other planned hot food unit is not known.
Domino’s was approached for comment on its plans, the number of jobs the new site might create, and a possible opening date. The company said it would not be commenting at this stage, but would reach out once an opening date was known.
