Several local DJs will take to the decks during the Caledonian V Cancer event this Saturday in aid of CLIC Sargent.

The music starts at 7pm and finishes at 3am on Sunday, and the sound selectors will include DJs Terry Fire, Lady Beats, Andy Innis, CKaz and Richard Lewis.

The event has been organised in memory of Michael Murphy who succumbed to cancer last year aged 25.

Michael’s uncle Sean (39), of Dalneigh, is a regular in the bar.

Sean has already organised several fundraising events across Inverness, and so far he has raised more than £625 for the charity.

Sean said he was really grateful to the Caledonian and all the DJs for their support, adding: “Michael first became unwell in 2017 and he had two forms of leukaemia and sadly died last September.

“CLIC Sargent really helped us through some hard times so I became involved in the fundraising.”

Michael was involved in last year’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign on Channel 4 having been filmed for the national fundraiser prior to his death.

The former factory worker and McDonald’s crew member lived in Forres before moving to Inverness.

Mark Glendinning, general manager of the Caledonian, said: “We try to support as many local events as possible, but this one is particularly special as Sean is both a friend and regular customer.

“CLIC Sargent is a wonderful charity that supports cancer patients and their families during incredibly difficult times.

“They were particularly helpful to Michael’s wife Shannon and young daughter Sophia after he passed away, so we want to help Sean raise funds for them to give something back.”

CLIC Sargent supports children and young people with cancer and leukaemia and the Caledonian event will be held ahead of World Cancer Day on Monday.
