Raigmore Hospital told to make improvements

Raigmore Hospital has been told to make improvements in 13 areas after a surprise inspection highlighted a number of issues - including failures to report infection outbreaks correctly. But Healthcare Improvement Scotland also found many strengths and a dozen examples of “good practice”.

“Not a shock, was there today and toilets disgusting - and only one sink working to wash hands.” - Yvonne Dennis

“Nothing but good to say about Raigmore after a recent stay. Experience from start to finish was outstanding.” - George Michie

“Getting chemotherapy at the moment, and have nothing but praise for the staff looking after me.” - Ross Mackay

“There’s always room for improvement in every NHS hospital. It’s reassuring that at least a dozen examples of good practice were found too.” - Kim Corbett

“Everyone is saying the same thing - ‘The hospital is no longer big enough’ that it should move. When you look at the amount of ground, the hospital does not have to move. With a little imagination this hospital could be one that everyone is proud of. If they moved the actual hospital around so that it's just in front of the dental building and breast clinic and rebuild the main hospital in a semi-circle adding on special units for head injuries etc. On the front they could have the car park but also include an underground car park. Yes it will cost, but the money the hospital is paying for patients to stay in hotels etc would not be needed. Then hopefully there would be no excuse for anything slipping and no excuses that the building is getting old. Soap and water does not cost much, nor does training your staff. Yes times are tough, but as a community we should be supporting our hospital, not complaining about it.” - Janet Robertson, Inverness

“Under so much pressure, the staff, nurses and doctors. Were so kind and compassionate when my dad passed away. On a daily basis they do their utmost for the patients. Blame the government.” - Shona Mathieson

“I couldn't have anything but the utmost respect for some of the staff at Raigmore, they were fantastic and kind to me when I broke my wrist!” - Dawn McWilliam
