Police Scotland detectives Inverness hunt fire-raiser after dog found dead in Caledonian Road flat
Detectives in Inverness are investigating a suspicious fire within a flat that may have killed a dog.
The Police Scotland CID officers have issued an appeal to the public for help in identifying a person seen entering the property in Caledonian Road in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
They believe the same suspect, seen wearing black and riding a dark-coloured bicycle, may be responsible for an act of vandalism in the Kestrel Place area of Drakies.
Police were alerted at around 8.10 am on Wednesday (May 21) that a fire at the home on Caledonian Road had been set deliberately.
No-one was injured in the incident, but a dog was found dead within the property.
The suspect was seen entering the flat around 1.30 am that morning and was then seen cycling off in the direction of Lilac Grove.
The incidence of vandalism is believed to have happened before the fire, at around 12.20 am.
Officers have carried out door-to-door enquiries and are still reviewing CCTV footage in search of additional information.
Detective Inspector Calum Reid said: “I am appealing to anyone who has any information regarding these incidents to contact us.
“Efforts are ongoing to fully understand the motive behind these crimes, but it’s imperative we trace the person responsible.
“I would ask anyone with CCTV, dash-cams and doorbell recording devices to check their footage as images captured could prove significant in our investigation.”
