Dangerous and insecure loads were detected when police carried out a series of spot checks on lorries in Inverness recently.

Fifteen separate offences were recorded during the crackdown on commercial vehicle operators passing through the city.

The spot checks, which were carried out in partnership with the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency, found that the “majority” were complying with legislation.

But numerous vehicles stopped did not meet safe standards.

These included five incidents of dangerous or insecure loads, five drivers hours offences, two tyre offences, an incident of dangerous parts, another of an overweight vehicle, and one check which had a CPC Document offence.

Several prohibition orders were issued by officers preventing vehicles moving until the faults were rectified.

A police spokesperson said: “We remain committed to improving road safety across the Highlands and Islands. Light and heavy goods vehicles present unique risks due to their size, weight and loads carried. Operators must ensure their driver, vehicles and loads are safe. We will continue to run operations like this to ensure safety standards are being followed.”
