Dangerous A82 blackspot near Invermoriston to be resurfaced after pleas
AN accident blackspot on the A82 is to be resurfaced, transport officials have revealed.
Residents living near a bend half-a-mile south of Invermoriston have repeatedly called for the speed limit to be reduced from 60mph to 40mph.
They include Ian and Catherine Thomson who regularly find themselves tending to motorists and passengers in the wake of accidents.
The location was the scene of another incident on Saturday afternoon when a car left the road and ended up in a ditch, although it is understood no-one was injured.
"It is really lucky that no-one was coming in the opposite direction," said Mrs Thomson.
She was frustrated that they had heard nothing from Transport Scotland about this summer’s surveys.
"I thought the whole point was to keep us informed," she said. "They did speed tests but they have not told us what sort of speeds people are travelling at. We have not heard anything at all."
Following surveys this summer, Transport Scotland has now announced a resurfacing scheme will be carried out either this financial year or next in line with budget availability.
"Our operating company, Bear Scotland, has completed a review of all of the data available for this site, including recorded speeds on the approaches," a spokeswoman said.
"They are now preparing a resurfacing scheme for the location, and as soon as the extent and details are finalised, we will be advising the local community including elected members and the campaigners, Mr and Mrs Thompson."
