Debenhams stores are now expected to close after the collapse of 'last ditch' rescue talks with JD Sports.

All 12,000 employees could lose their jobs if the department chain's 124 shops cease trading.

Debenhams is a flagship store in Inverness' Eastgate Centre.

Debenhams fell into administration for the second time in April.

Hopes had rested on a rescue bid from JD Sports, but the sports company pulled out of the deal.

The news comes as the Arcadia Group, owned by Sir Philip Green, has also collapsed.

The Aarcadia Group brands such as Top Shop, Wallis and Dorothy Perkins accounted for around £75million-worth of annual sales in Debenhams.
