Emergency repairs on a burst water main that has disrupted supplies to homes in part of Inverness are expected to be completed this afternoon.

Scottish Water has updated affected areas to say it hopes to have completed the repairs by 4.30pm, but will continue delivering bottled water to affected homes until normal service is resumed.

The burst nine-inch pipe - a trunk main - is located next to the B9006 Culloden road between Culloden Moor and Brookfield. Traffic management is in place but motorists are being advised to “consider an alternative route if at all possible” while repairs continue.

A spokesperson said: “Repairs are progressing to the burst nine-inch trunk water main which supplies customers in IV2 Culloden Moor and nearby surrounding areas.

“The burst is located on the B9006 roadway between Culloden Moor Inn and Brookfield, and traffic management is in place to ensure the safety of the public and our teams whilst we carry out the repair. Please consider an alternative route if at all possible, in order to avoid potential delays to your journey.

“Tankers are continuing to distribute water into the network to restore and maintain supplies for as many customers, however, please be aware that some customers may experience no water or low / intermittent water pressure until the repair has been completed.”

They continued: “Some customers may also experience discoloured water which is normal during such an incident.

“If you experience brown water, we advise to allow your cold-water kitchen tap to run at a reduced pressure until this runs clear. Do not run any other taps or use any water appliances whilst doing so and follow the same process with any other taps affected once the water is clear from your cold-water kitchen tap.

“If you experience white water, this is air trapped in the supply and will clear within 24 to 48 hours.

“We apologise to all affected customers for any inconvenience or disruption caused, and thank them for their continued patience and co-operation.”
