A BOOK showcasing the recipes from the Highlands and the North of Scotland has been shortlisted in a prestigious industry award.

The latest work by award-winning food writer Ghillie Başan, A Taste of the Highland was published by Birlinn in late 2021 and has now has been announced among the finalists for the prestigious Guild Of Food Writers 25th Anniversary Awards 2022, in the International or Regional Cookbook category.

In the book, which is a culinary journey across the Highlands, the author meets local food producers of all sorts across the region, ranging from the Cairngorms, to Sutherland, across the Black Isle and on the Moray Firth.

Ms Başan posted on her social media: "Very chuffed with the news that A Taste of the Highlands by Birlinn has been shortlisted for a prestigious Guild of Food Writers Award!!

"I feel responsible for the people I have written about and the local produce I have used so it is comforting and an honour to receive recognition from The Guild of food Writers. This is a book of stories and it is the Year of Storytelling so I’m delighted to see the Highlands and our wonderful food and drink producers given a wee boost!"

Ms Başan is a food writer, boradcaster amd food anthropologist who has written over 40 books on different culinary cultures and has bagged several awards for them.

She is based in Banffshire in the Cairngorms National Park, where she runs a holiday cottage and cooking workshops.
