Highland drivers warned by Traffic Scotland that A9 closed 'in both directions' following crash north of the Dornoch Bridge; Scottish Fire and Rescue Service engines from Dornoch and Golspie were sent to the site of the one-vehicle crash near Clashmore

THE A9 is closed in both directions near in southern Sutherland following a one-vehicle crash.

Traffic Scotland has confirmed the closure, which is understood to be near the A949 Bonar Bridge road’s junction with the A9 near Clashmore.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said that two fire engines were called to the scene from Golspie and Dornoch shortly after 8.20am.

One has since been stood down and the other remained on site at the time of writing while continuing to make the vehicle safe.

There was no immediate word as to whether there were any injuries.
