Covid-19 death toll in the NHS Highland area now stands at 103
A total of 103 people have now died in the NHS Highland area from either confirmed or suspected Covid-19 – up from 97 a week ago.
Each Wednesday the National Records of Scotland (NRS) issues numbers of cases where Covid-19 has been mentioned on a death certificate.
Within the NHS Highland area, since the outbreak began, 33 of the total number of deaths have occurred in care homes, with 14 occurring at home and 56 in hospital.
Within the smaller Highland Council area the death toll now stands at 44.
Eleven of those deaths have occurred in care homes with six at home and 27 in hospital.
The rise in care home deaths – up two from last week – is likely to be attributable to the outbreak of infection at the Home Farm care home on Skye.
A total of 10 residents have now died there but some of those deaths will be recorded in next week's figures as they happened after Sunday, when the NRS starts compiling the information.
Scotland as a whole has seen a rise in the total number of Covid-19 deaths, up to 3546 from 3213 registered seven days ago, though the rate of increase has fallen for a third week in a row.
In a more detailed breakdown of the national numbers, the majority of deaths were in hospitals (1664) while 1623 people died in care homes and 255 people died at home and four elsewhere.
