A request to formally suspend the registration of an Inverness care home has been granted.

Sheriff David Sutherland granted the Care Inspectorate's request for the suspension of the registration of Elmgrove House Care Home at the civil court in Inverness this morning (Friday).

It will take formal effect from November 8, but the court heard that the process of decanting residents had already started.

Murray Macdonald, solicitor for the home's owner, Eleanor Mackay, said she did not oppose the motion for suspension of registration.

However he added that she had been in the care home business for 13 years and had taken over Elmgrove as a business with "inherent problems".

She had been working with the Care Inspectorate to address problems, he said, and now had concerns about potential loss of jobs among the home's staff.

He sad she had always tried to do her est for residents and it was a matter of considerable sadness for her that this situation had come to pass.

As was reported earlier this week a team from the NHS and Highland Council moved in to Elmgrove House Care Home in Ballifeary Road after the Care Inspectorate identified "serious and significant concerns" about quality of care for its 23 residents whose average age was 97.

Today's Inverness Courier reports on how a former senior carer at the home was struck off earlier this month for a catalogue of abusive treatment of residents.
