Inverness ultra marathon man Cam Wilson nears NC500 halfway mark in incredible Mikeysline charity challenge
A courageous ultra-marathon man from Inverness is nearing the halfway mark on an incredible NC500 running challenge for a mental health charity.
Gutsy Cam Wilson (26) set off from the Highland capital on April 28 to run 61 miles on his first day to Lochcarron.
Battling bravely through injury and exhaustion, he made it just short of the 200-mile mark at Ullapool on Friday - just over seven marathons in five days - and then Inchnadamph by Saturday.
The original target was to complete the 516 mile route in 10 days, but the notoriously challenging Highland terrain has been taking its toll.
The latter 24-mile leg had to be done as a walk because of pain from a swollen ankle and a scary episode where sleep struck while he walked.
An update from Saturday evening on his Facebook site named Cam Runs the NC500 said: “Day six complete! Today was pretty rough again. Through pain and exhaustion Cam walked 24 miles from Ullapool to Inchnadamph.
“We had quite a scary episode of exhaustion where Cam was nearly falling asleep walking and ended up sleeping in the van for 10 minutes, and needing to have tea and sugar before setting off again.”
Cam is running to raise funds for Inverness-based Mikeysline.
He has already smashed through his £5000 fundraising target, with the sum still rising.

Another update from Saturday morning spoke of how his injury was not being taken lightly and could, if it develops, force him off the road.
It read: “A wee update from Cam this morning. He’s really starting to struggle with a very swollen left ankle - still trying to get some mileage done this weekend but it’s looking like he won’t make the full distance without causing real injury.
“Taking every hour as it comes and assessing the situation continually.”
