An Inverness councillor is warning the owner of a white van that has been "abandoned" in a hospital car park to remove it – or he will take matters into his own hands.

Inverness South councillor Duncan Macpherson believes the vehicle no MOT or insurance.

He has phoned and emailed the owners of the Vauxhall Combo van after it was been spotted occupying a parking space near Raigmore Hospital for more than a month.

Cllr Macpherson said: "The vehicle is parked beside the outpatient entrance and close to the side where the Maggie’s Highland building is located.

"Ronnie Dyce of Highland Recycling Limited (HRL) has offered to have the vehicle uplifted and removed for free to free up a space at the hospital.

"It would be transported to the secure storage area within the HRL yard.

"He is happy to store the 12-year-old rusty van until the lockdown is over, allowing the owners to collect it from him.

"If as we expect, the owners have abandoned it in Raigmore Hospital grounds, then HRL will recycle, then scrap and crush the van, giving the proceeds from its recycling and scrap value to Raigmore Hospital, NHS and Maggie’s Highland."

Cllr Macpherson has previously voiced his anger at individuals flouting the stated intended use of the hospital car park.

"This is despicable behaviour by anyone thinking of doing this at any time, but is particularly heartless during the current coronavirus pandemic and increased expectations required by all NHS staff, carers and key workers," he said.

"These valuable car parking spaces should only be used by the dedicated and hard-working NHS staff and hospital patients to the daily outpatient clinics, or family members visiting a loved one currently receiving treatment in the hospital."

White Lining Services, whose logo is on the vehicle, have been contacted for comment, but have not responded.
