A new post of depute chief executive has been created for Highland Council.

A new depute chief executive and a new chief officer for health and social care are being recruited for Highland Council.

A revised structure of the council's executive team was agreed by full council on May 9 last year, a spokeswoman for the council said, with the post of chief operating officer/depute chief executive carrying a salary agreed at previous director level.

A meeting of the council's recruitment panel on May 15 last year agreed the recruitment of a chief operating officer/ depute chief executive would proceed and the post was first advertised on August 13, 2019, but a suitable candidate was not shortleeted.

Following pauses in recruitment the council administration agreed that this and the vacancy for an executive chef officer for health and social care should be readvertised at the same time, to save advertising costs.

The appointment of senior officers is a decision for senior members, they added.

The posts can currently be seen online on MyJobScotland, with wider press adverts set to appear this week.
