Residents have generally welcomed the introduction of a new parking permit scheme in Inverness.

Highland Council will introduce the Ballifeary Road Residents Permit Scheme from Monday, August 1.

Helen Smith, the chairwoman of Ballifeary Community Council, said they had been trying to get parking controls in place for about five years because of traffic issues.

She said there was a charge for the permits, but added: “It’s not a great amount – just over £1 a week. There have been a huge amount of problems in Ballifeary Road with uncontrolled parking.”

The parking scheme extends on the north section of Ballifeary Road from its junction with Bishop’s Road to its junction with Ballifeary Lane at the southern end.

The restricted hours are Monday to Friday, 10am-5pm, for permit holders only.

• Visit the council website for full details of the scheme.
