Coronavirus death toll in NHS Highland area rises to 107

A total of 107 people have died in the NHS Highland area from either confirmed or suspected Covid-19 – an increase of four from a week ago.
Each Wednesday the National Records of Scotland (NRS) issues numbers of cases where Covid-19 has been mentioned on a death certificate.
Within the NHS Highland area, since the outbreak began, 35 of the total number of deaths have occurred in care homes, with 14 occurring at home and 58 in hospital.
Within the smaller Highland Council area the death toll increased by two during the last week to a total of 46.
Thirteen of those deaths were in care homes with six at home and 27 in hospital.
The rise in care home deaths – up two from last week – is likely to be attributable to the outbreak of infection at the Home Farm care home on Skye.
A total of 10 residents have now died there and three of those deaths are now being investigated by Police Scotland.
The NHS Highland area includes Argyll and Bute Council and Highland Council and has a combined population of around 320,000.
The Highland Council area has approximately 235,000 residents.
Scotland as a whole has seen a rise in the total number of Covid-19 deaths, up to 3776 from 3546 registered seven days ago, though the rate of increase has fallen for a fourth week in a row.
In a more detailed breakdown of the national numbers, 1749 people died in care homes, 264 people died at home, 1760 died in hospital and six elsewhere.
