Plans to convert a steading at Culloden Battlefield into a family home have been refused by Highland councillors this afternoon.

Members of the south planning applications committee voted 6-4 to reject a proposed development at Culchunaig Steading.

Councillors had been recommended to approve the plan despite opposition from the National Trust for Scotland (NTS), which is responsible for the battlefield.

The proposal was a revised plan after a previous application for the same site last year was rejected by Scottish ministers who overturned Highland Council’s decision to approve it.
