A confusing series of road signs could send drivers and cyclists into the River Ness, a cyclist has claimed.

Twitter user @ZenBike_UK said all the signs along the Places for People route on Ness Walk could direct road users in the wrong direction.

"It's not just one sign - It's all of them! All along this part of the Covid-19 Priority Route drivers and cyclists could be turning into the river," they said.

Pointing up one particular incorrect sign they said: "This should be a 'keep left' sign, but it has ended up as a 'turn left'.

"With-flow road users could end up in the river."

They also claim that apparent vandalism of a no entry sign one sign could cause problems.

"The 'Except cycles' plate has been reversed," they said.

"This could stop cyclists getting to the Bught Park and prevent others from returning to the city centre.

"I don't know how or why they do it but interfering with these signs must stop before someone takes a turn for the worse."

Highland Council, responding to the tweets, said: "We have highlighted this to the team responsible and it will be corrected immediately."
