TWO further cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the NHS Highland area overnight.

The number of people who have tested positive for the coronavirus now stands at 322.

The figure comes amid the backdrop of 141 confirmed cases across Scotland as a whole. The nation has recorded 13,627 positive tests since the outbreak began - although the true number of cases is believed to be much higher.

Only five fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours, as the total number of Scottish deaths from people who had tested positive rose to 1862.

The number of people across Scotland who were being treated in hospital for suspected or confirmed Covid-19 stood as 1453 last night - down 31 from the previous day.

And there were two fewer patients in intensive care than at the same point on Sunday.

In the Highlands there were only nine people receiving treatment in hospital for Covid-19.

Elsewhere in the north, Orkney, Shetland and Eileanan Siar maintained their recent run of days with no new cases.

In Grampian there were 28 new diagnoses, to take its running total to 1078. The number of people requiring treatment in its hospitals rose slightly from 92 to 99, while the number of them in intensive care increased one to 11.

NHS Tayside, meanwhile, recorded no new cases of the virus. It has had 1497 positive tests since the outbreak began. The number of people receiving hospital treatment in that region fell from 41 to 37 in 24 hours.
