Community groups and organisations in Nairnshire are being invited to apply for funding.

Successful applicants will get a share of £78,728 from the Place-Based Investment Programme funding by Highland Council’s Nairnshire Area Committee.

The deadline for Nairnshire applications, which can be made via the Council’s website, is 9am on January 31.

The Scottish Government has allocated Highland Council £1,963,000 of ring-fenced Place-Based Investment Programme funding for the current financial year of which Nairnshire Area Wards will receive £78,728 in the first round of funding.

The programme seeks to support capital projects which deliver on place policy ambitions such as community-led regeneration, 20-minute neighbourhoods and Community Wealth Building, and are shaped by the needs and aspirations of local communities.

In September, members of the council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee agreed that an area-based approach would be adopted to manage the Scottish Government’s Place-Based Investment Programme grant for 2021/22.

Councillor Tom Heggie, the chairman of the Nairnshire Area Committee, said: “I would encourage all and every group with significant plans to develop community facilities in Nairn to submit an application.

"I have been in personal contact with a number of groups and also we have received a number of submissions for consideration.

"Given the short time scale for this process, can I encourage community groups to enable proposals to move forward to bid ready level so that as and when the Scottish Government updates any future proposals, local groups are ready and prepared to make appropriate submissions.”
