THE road out to Alturlie Point is to be closed overnight at the weekend while "essential" repairs are carried out on the Inverness-Aberdeen railway line.

The road, which crosses a railway level crossing shortly after leaving the A96, will be closed between its junction with the trunk road and the turn-off for the Allanfearn waterworks on the Moray Firth shoreline.

The road will be closed from 11pm on Saturday until 8.30am on Sunday.

"The closure is required to enable a contractor, working on behalf of Network Rail, to safely undertake essential railway track maintenance and repair works," said a Highland Council spokesman.
