CLACHNACUDDIN chairman Alex Chisholm is vowing to work tirelessly to get Grant Street Park back in action after a blaze broke out in the dressing rooms on Christmas Eve morning.

Flames spread through to the club’s laundry room and damaged changing facilities, a kit store, the roof and boardroom.

Building assessors must now decide on a timescale for major refurbishment.

Tomorrow’s home fixture against Formartine United has been postponed, but Mr Chisholm is eager to be ready for Fort William’s visit on January 18.

If not, the club is examining the possibility of a venue change to Highland Rugby Club, the Caledonian Stadium or another Highland League ground.

The chairman said the club had been humbled by the support shown by the public and businesses.

He said: “The fire came as a great shock to us all, but we’re already back in positive frame of mind and very much looking to the future.”

* Police are investigating a suspicious fire which caused significant damage to the former Deichmann Shoes store at Inshes Retail Park in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
