Invernessians had their first opportunity for a proper look at the latest addition to the Highland capital hospitality sector after the scaffolding came down on the new AC by Mariott Hotel next to Friars Bridge.

Though the scaffolding has come down on the riverside front of the building, work is still continuing to ready the building for guests by this summer.

The 175-bedroom building, which occupies the Glebe Street site of the former municipal swimming pool, is being constructed by Dutch company Vastint Hospitality and contractor ACREO and is expected to open for visitors by this summer.

Initial planning permission for the building was refused, forcing developers to come back with an amended design.

It will be one of the first AC hotels in Scotland and international travellers will be one of its key target areas,
