Inverness firm Wavegen is to close after its German owner Voith announced it was pulling out of the Highlands.

The move will affect 18 jobs at the city’s Harbour Road site, Voith said today.

In a statement, the firm said it was reorganising the wave power technology within its Ocean Energy Division and "pooling the know-how" at the company’s engineering centre in Heidenheim, Germany.

Within the course of this reorganisation it is intended to shut down the location in Inverness.
