Christmas initiative raises almost £10k for charity as firefighters spread cheer across Nairnshire
Crews and staff from Nairn Community Fire Station have been visiting local communities to bring some festive cheer and raise funds for charity.
As they visit Ardersier tonight - and set for a visit to Auldearn on Monday - they will be delivering some sweet treats and raising a smile as well as money for local causes.
The tradition which is called ‘Santa’s Sleigh’ has been running for seven years, with last year’s initiative raising more than £13,000 which was donated to several charities. So far this year around £9,600 has been raised.
Firefighter James Kellas, who performs as The Grinch, said: "It’s great to see people are still supporting the cause. We are so grateful to everyone that has helped. It's a testament to the generosity of the local community and we thank everyone for their fantastic support.
"For us, it's great to meet people from the communities we serve and to be able to engage with them, as well as bring some festive cheer to the children we meet.
“The fundraising also goes towards helping so many local charities and people in need.”
Since its start, the initiative has raised more than £50,000 and has also contributed to the installation of five defibrillators in the local area.
