A chippy in Inverness is among the very best in the UK - and that’s official!

The Hilton Chip Shop is celebrating after it was named among the top 40 fish and chip shops in the UK.

It was one of the finalists in this year’s National Fish and Chip Awards, which were announced in a glitzy ceremony in London this week.

And although they didn’t come away with one of the top awards on the night, the were delighted to make the top 40 and be included among such lofty company based on the quality of their food.

They said making it to the top 40 was a “fantastic achievement” and they are “incredibly proud” to have been the only fish and chip shop in the Highland capital to make the award final.

The chip shop’s Grant and Jamie, speaking on the chippy’s Facebook page, said: “We are incredibly proud to be considered and represent our community in such a wildly recognised award. We are lucky enough to be the only fish and chip shop in Inverness to make the award and represent our community.

“This is a fantastic achievement and we would like to congratulate all of the finalists who entered and have done incredibly well in representing and driving the industry forward. We would also like to thank and congratulate our suppliers and partners, many of whom have also represented the industry at these awards tonight.

“Finally thankyou to all of our customers who continually support and help us along in our journey by providing such great feedback! Your loyalty and support are what drives us forward and makes us continuously improve to provide an ever better customer experience!

“We couldn't have done this without you all!”

Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), which runs the awards, said the standard among the finalists in this year’s contest had set an even higher bar than in previous years.

He said: “This year’s entrants have shown the abundant passion for fish and chips is only deepening. “The bar for the National Fish & Chip Awards is set higher each year across the criteria the competitors are evaluated against, and our new titleholders have put everything into elevating their menus, sharpening their skills and developing their expertise.

“The quick-service sector is constantly changing but what remains is that customers expect a high-quality product that tastes like heaven, that sustainability is carefully considered throughout the experience and the service is on-point. Each winner hits the mark on all these fronts and their hard work is achieving national attention.

“On behalf of the NFFF, I’d like to say a big ‘congratulations’ and ‘thank you’ to these businesses for being shining examples of greatness in the fish and chip industry.”
