A Highland-based advocacy service has struck gold with its latest award.

Advocacy Highland, a charity which supports people to speak up, has achieved the prestigious Investors in People Gold Accreditation.

Bosses at the Highland-wide service have welcomed the achievement which it said demonstrates its commitment to its people.

Chief executive Maya Uddin said: “We are beyond delighted to be recognised as highly effective and efficient in the key aspects of leading, supporting and improving – it’s all the more remarkable given the difficulties presented by Covid and working from home.

“The assessment reported that inclusive and consultative management, excellent communication and shared values led to staff and volunteers being highly motivated, effective and describing Advocacy Highland as a great organisation to be involved with.”

Moray MacDonald, the chairman of Advocacy Highland, said: “The gold award is granted to only seven per cent of organisations and rarely to charities. The achievement is testament to the commitment and motivation of our staff and volunteers.”

Bonnie Clarke, interim chief executive of Remarkable, the organisation licensed to deliver Investors in People Scotland accreditation, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Advocacy Highland – congratulations.

“Investors in People recognises organisations who are truly committed to their people, continuous improvement and customer service.”

The charity was established in 2003 by Sheilis Mackay who retired as chief executive at the end of 2020 leaving a legacy of excellence after 17 years.
