ScotRail trains cancelled north of Inverness on Far North Wick and Thurso and Kyle lines

Train services north of Inverness are being cancelled after a signalling fault at Muir of Ord.

ScotRail passengers onboard the 5.12pm Inverness to Ardgay service, due in at 6.40pm, were first to be affected with customers disembarking at Muir of Ord.

That train has now been sent back to Inverness where it will terminate.

The 6.31pm train north out of Inverness, the last service heading for Wick, was also cancelled.

At present, ScotRail says no replacement buses have been booked

With the disruption likely to last until 9pm at least, all passengers on the Far North and Kyle lines are advised to check their journeys.

A ScotRail spokesman said: “Due to a fault with the signalling system at Inverness disruption is expected until 21:00.

“Train services between Inverness and Wick may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“We've got a signal fault between Inverness and Muir of Ord that's causing some disruption to our services.

“We've got techs on site and they're doing what they can to fix the problem.

“Once we have more information from our staff on the ground we will provide you with an update on how this will affect your journey.

“We have Ticket Acceptance in place with Stagecoach North buses between Inverness and Tain.

“Just show your valid ticket or Smart card to the driver when boarding the bus.”

“Use the National Rail Enquiries real-time journey planner to check if you can continue your journey by rail.

“If you have had to drive to another station your ticket will be valid to collect your car on your return journey. Speak to a member of staff to validate your ticket.

“Currently, we have not requested Rail Replacement Transport. We will monitor this situation as the incident develops.

“You might wish to consider postponing your journey until our service's return to normal.”
