CCTV work carried out over the weekend shows a sewer has collapsed on the other side of the road from a sinkhole on Bridge Street.

However, it is still unclear when Bridge Street will reopen after being closed since August 8 due to a sinkhole.

The work is being carried out by Scottish Water. Specialist equipment will be needed to excavate due to the presence of other services. As of today (Monday 12) there was no one at the site carrying out work.

Scottish Water is currently assessing whether it may be possible to open one lane while work under the footpath is carried out.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “We are acutely aware of the inconvenience the road closure is causing.

“We will do all that is necessary to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Inverness BID has urged for a clearer timeframe to when the road will reopen in order to avoid businesses being impacted.

A spokesperson for BID said: “We are aware of the impact the sinkhole is having on the area. All nearby businesses remain open and are ready to welcome customers.

“We are understanding that health and safety must be paramount however to help minimise disruption having a clearer timeframe as to when the situation will be resolved would be really helpful as this at present is unclear.”
