THE exact cause of a massive blaze in a derelict building in South Kessock remains unknown.

Police have charged two 12-year-old boys in connection with the fire with a report on the matter sent to the Children’s Reporter.

Any investigation into the cause of the Thornbush Road blaze will be carried out by officers from Police Scotland which has taken over responsibility from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

A police spokesman said yesterday the fire was still being treated as “wilful” but there were no updates with nothing more to report on the case.

Officers from Highland Council met with the owner on Friday who intends to make all access points to the building secure and erect a fence between the front and pavement.

A council spokesman said: “Highland Council has also asked him to arrange for a structural engineer to inspect and advise what course of action is required to make the building safe.

“Highland Council has also served a dangerous building notice on the owner, requiring these works to be carried out within set timescales.”

A total of 31 firefighters were needed to tackle Wednesday’s blaze, with four crews from Inverness and two from Dingwall, and no one was injured.
