ONE of the Highlands’ foremost golf courses has landed a prestigious award at one of the biggest events in Scotland’s golfing calendar.

Castle Stuart Golf Links, located between Inverness and Nairn, took the prize for best clubhouse at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.

The championship links course overlooking the Moray Firth has earned widespread acclaim since opening 13 years ago.

Co-designed by two Americans, managing partner Mark Parsinen and golf course architect Gil Hanse, it was voted as best new course for 2009 by Golf magazine.

The course also hosted the Scottish Open in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016.

General manager Stuart McColm was thrilled to win the latest accolade and credited the hard work of staff and management for the success.

Mr McColm said: “We would like to thank the organisers of the Scottish Golf Tourism Week for selecting Castle Stuart for their best clubhouse award.

“We work very hard to ensure our visitors enjoy themselves when here and we are grateful for the recognition of the team’s efforts.”

Jeremy Matte, director of golf at Castle Stuart, said: “We had a fantastic couple of days at the Scottish Golf Tourism Week, meeting many friends, old and new alike.

“The icing on the cake has been being given this lovely award which highlights a key element of our golfing ethos – that golf should be about enjoyment and fun.

“Our success is down to the very hard work of all of the team here.

“Thanks to the organisers for a superb event, and of course, many thanks to the visitors who come to Castle Stuart to play their golf and soak up the panoramic sea vistas and atmosphere from our award-winning clubhouse.”

Sports commentator Dougie Donnelly presided over the awards evening, with a representative of PGA Scotland handing over the award to Mr Matte.

Castle Stuart is currently closed for the annual
winter break but the course will open for
the new season on March 25.
